Sunday 8th September Coach to Carlisle for Revd Ruth’s Installation as Archdeacon of Carlisle. If you are interested in having a place on a coach that is being organised, please put your details on the slip provided at the back of church and pop it in the wall safe, or email [email protected]. Cost is a little over £20 for a 30 seater coach.
NB It is necessary to book a FOC ticket for the service/service plus refreshments afterwards via the Carlisle Cathedral website. I have booked 20 service plus refreshment tickets for the 20 people who have already put their names down for the coach.
Vacancy
As Revd Ruth leaves us, this Parish is going into a period called a Vacancy. Your Church Wardens, Tony and Rosemary now have the responsibility of “keeping the show on the road” until such time as our future is decided by the Bishop Anna, Archdeacon Jonathan and Dean John. We will do our best to keep everything going on as usual with the help of our newly commissioned Lay Worship Ministers (Juliet and Carol-ann) and of visiting clergy for services of Holy Communion. Juliet can be contacted through [email protected]. Tony and Rosemary will be meeting in church every Monday morning at 9.30am and if you wish to raise anything to do with the churches, please see them then, or by arrangement via a message to [email protected]. Please help and support us with prayers and actions as we do our very best to keep the flame burning while we navigate these unfamiliar waters!
Safer Recruitment
The PCC is seeking to engage a Safer Recruitment Officer. If you or anyone you know might be interested in the position, please have a word with one of the church wardens as soon as possible.
HELP NEEDED please. Volunteers are needed to assist during the afternoon, 2-5pm, in an outstanding historic garden in the area, when it is open to the public. You would need to be welcoming to visitors and to take payments for plant sales. The times when assistance is needed are in early and late August. Please email [email protected] or phone 01765 640333 and speak to Halina for more details.
You can make a valuable and painless contribution to St John’s funds by using Easy Fund Raising every time you go shopping online. Please investigate through https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/sjcs/. (The wording does need updating, but the sentiment remains the same!)
Both St John’s Church and Holy innocents Copt Hewick are open daily from 10am to 4pm.
